What A Slacker

Haven't posted in a while. Life is crazy busy this time of year. Dyaln is healing nicely from his little accident. He just got his first EVER report card and did very well. WE just had a visit from my nephew and his girlfriend, the kids had a GREAT time and so did I. We went on a tour of a chocolate factory in Seattle (see picture of Cocoa beans) and it was very fun and very tasty. Melyssa is doing well in reading and having fun with her new friends in First Grade. Everything is going well. We are planning a trip to LA at Christmas and Meagan will come back with us for the rest of the Holiday Break.

911

Today is about Dylan. We had an exciting evening, just before bathtime, Dylan cracked his head on the coffee table. Called 911. The fire/paramedic guys were at our house withinfive minutes. Dylan is fine, not even stitches (or glue) required. What a toughy!

More Good News

I spoke with Melyssa's teacher today and received some great news! Melyssa is doing even better than anticipated in Kidergarten reading, not only is she keeping up, she is actually in the middle reading group as opposed to the lowest. She has a real grasp of letters and their sounds and did well on her first oral test yesterday! Makes me cry with joy.

And the Results Are......

Well, we got through the assesment. After lengthy testing and observing it has been decided by Melyssa's team and I that she will be staying in her class. The tests results were lower than expected. Not to say she isn't about to under go BIG changes. She will be getting more speech one on one in school. She will be mainstreamed into first grade for lunch and show and tell, and she will be going to reading in a mainstream kindergarten. Quite an accomplishment! We are incredibly proud of her and can't wait to see how all of this goes.

I have Been Lazy

I haven't posted in about two weeks. I have a meeting scheduled for Wednesday with Melyssa's team to re-evaluate whether she will be moved to a new class and a new school. Her new class is called an adjustment class and it would switch the focus from self-help skills to academic skills. It gives me much hope for Melyssa's future. The topic of Melyssa's long term future was recently brought up, this is always touchy for me. I want to think the best outcome will come about. That Melyssa will be able to function and thrive on her own as an adult, but the reality is that we just don't know. Melyssa just turned seven last week. Birthdays are a great time to reflect on how much has happened for her this past year. She is more confidant than ever and she is talking recognizably most of the time, in fact she is becoming quite a chatter box! She has been going to the bathroom on the toilet more and more. I have great hopes for my kiddo and she is meeting and exceeding challenges every day!

Back to Happy

Today is a good day. Melyssa continues to amaze me, she counted to 30 last night, and is making attempts at real reading! Dylan is silly as ever and is loving kindergarten. Meagan has just been notified that she will get to go on her class trip to Washington DC, and work is going well for both Bryan and I. Not feeling blue anymore.

Feeling Raw

I have just read through the latest posts and it appears that my thoughts are not very linear. I try to take one issue at a time, but then I get a bit tangled up and go off on a different tangent. I guess this is because there is no easy box to fit it all in. Today I am feeling very raw and sensitive. Some days are just harder than others.
