More Good News

I spoke with Melyssa's teacher today and received some great news! Melyssa is doing even better than anticipated in Kidergarten reading, not only is she keeping up, she is actually in the middle reading group as opposed to the lowest. She has a real grasp of letters and their sounds and did well on her first oral test yesterday! Makes me cry with joy.

I must let others know at the outset that I am one of Melyssa's grandmas--the one who is her mom's mom. M is a remarkable kid and my daughter is the reason. She never quits fighting for melyssa with whatever obstacles are put in front of her, and Melyssa never quits trying to figure out the world that she lives in, although it is not wholly her world. Both are admirable and remarkable.

All of us have special needs. Melyssa has "differences" that mark her for some special attention, and she deserves some. She is gracious, empathetic, and strong. She SEES people and accepts them as no other 7-year-old I know. She is not concerned only about herself. Even though she doesn't quite fit with the expectations all around her, she sense others' needs and tries to help. She is a treasure.
